Star Wars The Original Trilogy
Posted on 05/06/2018 in misc
As I'm sure both my readers are aware, May 4th has become a bit of a Star Wars themed holiday with all the May the 4th be with you stuff. We turned it into a three day event this year. It started on May 3rd with Star Wars trivia at my favorite local brewery Intermission Brewing. We won 2 out of the 3 games, getting nine 9/10 right in each game. And by we I mean my son. I was just there for the beer.
Then we returned on the 4th for a double feature of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Yes, the brewery 5 minutes from my house has a license to show movies, and over the weekend they did the first two trilogies, in broadcast order. We didn't return on Saturday, but we did watch Return of the Jedi at home on Saturday.
I don't know how long it's been since I watched the the Star Wars movies, but having just watched them I now shall provide you the definite ranked order of the original trilogy. I don't think this is particularly controversial.
- The Empire Strike Back.
- Return of the Jedi
- A New Hope
Empire is easily the most consistent of the three flicks. Return of the Jedi starts slow. The entire first 20 minutes with Jabba the Hut is borderline cartoonish in execution, but then settles in and is fantastic. A New Hope is, well it's like your taste in music when you were 12. You still love it for what it meant to you at the time, but it's kind of embarrassing today.
I could write 5000 words on this, but it has been done enough times already so I'll just leave it at this.
I will not be re-watching the 2nd trilogy.
